Mr Mohamed Dekkak and Orchid Island Group Commit to the Malaika Center for Children with Down Syndrome Alongside His Excellency Mr. Farid Chourak, Wali of Marrakech-Safi
As part of the 20th anniversary of the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH) , Mr. Mohamed Dekkak (https://dekkak.com/) , founder and Chairman of Orchid Island Real Estate , accepted an official invitation from His Excellency Mr. Farid Chourak , Wali of the Marrakech-Safi region and Governor of the Prefecture of Marrakech, on May 21, 2025 .
This center supports children with Down syndrome. It is an emblematic project that reflects the values of the INDH. Indeed, this initiative aligns closely with the human development goals promoted by the program.
A National Reference for Specialized Care
Founded by the Malaika Association with support from the Lions Club Marrakech , the center has become a national reference in individualized care.
It was created to serve underprivileged children. Over the past eleven years, it has grown into a model institution for children with Down syndrome.
Recognizing Excellence in Social Inclusion
During his visit, Mr. Dekkak expressed deep admiration for the work being done at the center. He praised efforts related to rehabilitation, education, vocational training, and social inclusion.
In addition, he recognized the governance model supported by the INDH. He described it as a unique combination of humanity, rigor, and long-term impact.
This collaboration between public institutions, civil society, and private actors proves how shared efforts can create meaningful change.
Public-Private Collaboration for Inclusive Development
This event highlights how cooperation between public and private sectors can promote inclusive development and improve lives.
Indeed, such partnerships are essential to building stronger communities where everyone has access to opportunities.
An Innovative Project for Children with Down Syndrome
Located in Daoudiate , the Malaika Center is led by the Malaika Association. It benefits from the active support of the Lions Club and the INDH.
Since opening over a decade ago, it has emerged as a national model for supporting children with Down syndrome — especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Comprehensive Support for Over 140 Children
Each year, the center welcomes nearly 140 children . It offers them:
- Adapted schooling
- Speech and language therapy
- Psychomotor therapy
- Educational and recreational activities
- Vocational training in baking and cooking
Its mission goes beyond education. It aims to prepare these children for future employment and independent living.
A Humanist Vision Meets Corporate Responsibility
Mr Mohamed Dekkak gladly accepted the Wali’s invitation. He sees this as an opportunity to contribute to a vital social cause.
Through this engagement, he reaffirms Orchid Island’s core values — combining sustainable real estate development with meaningful civic responsibility.
He stated, “True progress is not only about economic growth. Rather, it is measured by how we include and uplift every member of society.”
Strategic Support for Sustainable Change
By joining forces with the Malaika Association and under the guidance of the INDH, Orchid Island plans to provide strategic support in areas like:
- Territorial governance
- Socio-economic integration
- Human skills development
This partnership reflects a broader vision — building a more inclusive society where everyone has the chance to thrive.
INDH: A Key Player in Social Development
Since its launch in 2005 under King Mohammed VI, the INDH has played a major role in supporting vulnerable populations — particularly people with disabilities.
For example, its support for the Malaika Center shows how it helps provide dignified and lasting solutions.
Growing Synergy Between Sectors
The involvement of private sector actors like Orchid Island marks a shift toward greater collaboration.
Government, civil society, and businesses now work together to advance humanity, solidarity, and social innovation. Consequently, they are paving the way for a more inclusive Morocco.
Expanding Impact Across Marrakech
Looking ahead, the Malaika Association plans to open a second center in the Ennakhil district . With support from the INDH and new partners like Orchid Island, this expansion will meet rising demand.
Moreover, His Excellency Mr. Farid Chourak pledged full institutional support. This includes funding, infrastructure improvements, and program enhancements — ensuring the project remains both sustainable and scalable.
A New Era of Corporate Citizenship
This partnership symbolizes a turning point in how Moroccan companies view their role in society.
For Orchid Island, it is a natural step forward — one that brings together entrepreneurial ambition and human values to build a fairer, more inclusive future.
